What is Neuro Linguistic Tapping?

nlt_logo_hpNeuro Linguistic Tapping, or NLT, is a comprehensive therapeutic system which integrates techniques from the fields of NLP, EFT and Timeline therapy. NLT was developed over 7 years by Master NLP & EFT Practitioner Tim Robins.

NLT can be used as a therapeutic modality, as a coaching system or as a self-help technique.  You can use NLT to remove unwanted thoughts, feelings or behaviours. NLT can also install new positive thoughts, empowering beliefs and desired behaviours within the subconscious mind.

NLP, EFT and Timeline are already recognised world wide as being cutting edge personal growth technologies. By combining and integrating them together NLT produces incredible shifts and changes rarely achieved by the individual therapies.

Many people don’t realise that NLP and EFT Skype sessions are just as effective at reducing stress and trauma as face to face sessions.

NLP_brainNLP, or Neuro Linguistic Programming, offers a wide range of ‘change techniques’ that work directly with the subconscious part of your mind. Many of these techniques are highly effective at breaking unwanted patterns, habits or reactions. NLP is also extremely effective at re-programming the mind with new positive beliefs, perceptions and behaviours.

EFT-squareEFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique, is a revolutionary healing technique that releases underlying emotional stress by stimulating specific points within the meridian energy system. Within minutes you will start to feel your stress levels melting away! Phobias, trauma and intense emotional pain can be reduced to an undetectable level within a single 1 hour session.

Timeline_crossroadsTimeline therapy is a healing modality that works by placing the past, present and future on the floor. By physically stepping into different points of time the subconscious mind is instantly activated. Repressed trauma is quickly brought to the surface where it can be quickly addressed and utilised.

3 powerful techniques in 1 system

Rapid changes within your Subconscious mind

How is NLT Different?

NLT comprises of elements from at least 3 different healing modalities, yet the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Below you can find explanations of how NLT relates to other healing modalities:

NLP

NLP has been evolving for over 30 years. It is a large and complex collection of distinctions, techniques, systems and processes. Many people find learning NLP a fascinating yet overwhelming experience. Many NLP practitioners admit that it has taken them 4-5 years of using NLP before they ‘got it’.

NLP can be broken down into 2 major segments: modelling and change work. Modelling focuses on replicating excellence. Change work focuses on learning how to create changes in the conscious and subconscious mind.

Interestingly, whilst NLP teaches change work techniques, it doesn’t teach a formal session structure through which change work can be delivered to paying clients (whether coaching or therapy).

Attending an NLP training will equip you with a collection of powerful techniques, but it won’t provide you with a blueprint structure of how to ‘do’ an NLP coaching or therapy session.

NLT instead focuses in on the change work aspects of NLP, especially for the purposes of accelerated therapy and coaching.

NLT takes the most powerful and useful aspects of NLP change technology and leaves the rest behind.

EFT / Meridian Tapping

EFT, or meridian tapping as it’s also known, is a revolutionary way of addressing mental and emotional stress. It a highly effective modality for releasing underlying emotional issues without any use of counselling or psychoanalysis. It tends to deliver huge results even in the hands of novice practitioners.

However EFT is not a complete therapy in itself and most certified EFT practitioners have not fully explored how powerful this technique can become when used in conjunction with NLP or Timeline therapy.

Most EFT trainings in the UK, such as AAMET’s Level 1 & 2 training, are just 3 days long. It is simply impossible to properly learn and incorporate the application of effective EFT within such a short time.

Traditional EFT is also long, complex and highly repetitive; to the point of becoming boring for the client and the practitioner. NLT by comparison is fast, dynamic and gets straight to the underlying issues.

EFT also lacks potency and effectiveness of NLT, due to the fact that core NLP elements such a sub-modalities, chunking, mirroring, matching, rapport, well formed outcomes, well formed problems, meta model and Milton model are not taught in EFT trainings.

NLT takes the core tapping method from EFT and then amplifies its effectiveness by integrating NLP language patterns, processes and techniques.

Timeline Therapy

The most commonly known form of Timeline Therapy comes from the work of NLP Master Trainer Tad James. James teaches a format of Timeline in which the client must visualise the timeline internally whilst sitting down.

Of course using Timeline this way requires your client to be able visualise and to hold their concentration on the timeline for 20-60 minutes. As I have found through my own trial and error, not everyone can actually do this. Many people struggle to visualise, some people claim they cannot visualise at all.

Tad James’ method recommends floating back to a point in time just prior to the traumatic event happening, with the hope that the trauma then suddenly vanishes from the client’s awareness. In my experience this process has never ever worked for me when using it in sessions.

Instead, I have found that using a physical timeline, placed on the floor of the session room is far more powerful, simple and effective. I teach how you can set up timelines within seconds and utilise their power at any point of a therapy or coaching session.

By combining EFT tapping within the timeline, you can help your client release even the most intense forms of trauma.

By combining NLP anchoring within the timeline, you can create motivating and empowering futures that act powerful attractor fields; pulling your clients towards the person they want to become.

Counselling & Psychotherapy

Counselling and psychotherapy are very useful for helping clients to explore and express issues. Counselling and psychotherapy are excellent at identifying the underlying issues and conflicts.

Both approaches tend to focus on conscious mind understanding of the issues at hand. However, many counsellors struggle to achieve breakthroughs when dealing with especially intense conditions such as panic attacks, trauma, PTSD, phobias, nightmares, obsessive/compulsive behaviours etc.

By combining your counselling/psychotherapy skills with NLT you will be able to offer a more holistic therapy that addresses both the conscious mind and subconscious/unconscious dimensions of the issue at hand.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is usually associated with the treatment of conditions such as PTSD, additions, compulsive behaviours and other expressions of intense emotional turmoil.

Yet, CBT often requires the client to consciously interrupt and analyses stress patterns as and when they arise (which is not always possible, especially with intense deep rooted emotional patterns).

Combining NLT with your CBT practice will certainly enhance your healing results, especially when dealing with intense emotional issues.

Hypnotherapy

Similar to hypnotherapy, NLT makes changes at the subconscious level of the mind. Different from hypnotherapy NLT does not require the client to go into trance. Therefore the client does not need to be suggestible nor willing in order for NLT to work.

As a Hypnotherapist you well know that not everyone is able or willing to be put into trance. NLT will enable you to provide significant and lasting results for anyone who is unable or unwilling to try hypnotherapy.

Likewise, you can teach your clients basic NLT tapping routines so that they can continue working on themselves at home in between sessions.

Coaching

Good quality coaching provides a structured, measurable and motivating framework through which people can increase their performance.

But what to do when your coaching clients are falling behind, getting stuck in a rut or coming up against a familiar blockage yet again?

What holds most people back in life can be traced back to fears and conflicts held deep within the subconscious mind. All the coaching, encouragement and consequences in the world are unlikely to resolve such deep issues.

Combine NLT into your coaching sessions and watch your clients transform.

Melt away resistance. Release conflicts and blockages. Create empowering futures that compel your clients to take positive action.
